Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) requires a lot of dedication. But what to do when in the middle of the battle, the partner demands attention? You hide in the bush, of course. A Fortnite trend that’s slowly turning into a meme.
Fortnite: Battle Royale is a fast-paced online battle royale game. As long as a round lasts, you are fair game for all opponents. If you’re not careful, you can quickly get taken out and eliminated from the game.
This is especially annoying when you are just about to win and only a few from the initially 100 players are left.
It’s silly when just then your friend or girlfriend calls or sends a text message!
The Relationship Dilemma of Online Gamers
Unlike offline games, you can’t simply pause an online game like Fortnite and then write your partner a sweet message or pick up the phone. If you go afk in Fortnite in the middle of the game, you can’t expect any mercy from your teammates.
On the other hand, it’s not advisable to give your partner the feeling that you would rather play a game than give them your attention. Feelings can easily get hurt, and the partner has every right to be upset.
The situation becomes especially dangerous when the partner is a dragon that you better not provoke!
Sweet Nothings from the Bush
To avoid this typical gamer relationship dilemma, some Fortnite players got creative and managed to survive the game while still giving their partner the necessary attention.
Some players cleverly used bush camouflage. Either they hid in the many bushes in the game or they used the cool camouflage item that transforms them into a bush. Hidden in this way, they could then reply to their loved ones undisturbed.
The Fortress of Love as a Safe Space!
But what to do when there is no suitable bush at hand? Then daring players simply build a thick fortress. But not a fortress of loneliness, rather one of love!
Protected by thick steel walls, the players are invisible to enemies and cannot be taken out easily. Ideal for then contacting the partner.
praises on Social Media
Many players have informed their loved ones in messages that they have built a fortress or are hiding in bushes just for them. This was often well received and proudly shared on social media. “Look, my partner is so sweet, he hides in a bush just to write to me! Romance is not dead!”

One woman even found it more romantic that her boyfriend built a massive fortress just to chat with her. “That’s so much sweeter than a stupid bush!”
Other partners have less luck. When asked “Fortnite or me”, one player simply replied: “I just spent 25 dollars on the battle pass, the choice is clear.”
Fortnite is increasingly influencing real life. In the USA, students are now allowed to write a chemistry exam on Fortnite due to a bet!
