In Fortnite (PC, PS4, Xbox One, iOS), a comet has been hovering in the sky for a long time, even making strange noises when aimed at. Using a spectrogram, fans have now discovered what the mysterious sounds mean.
In Fortnite: Battle Royale, the comet is currently the hot topic. The celestial body is steadily approaching the map and is now frighteningly close. An impact is currently anticipated, with expectations of widespread destruction, such as the destruction of Tilted Towers.
But there are more secrets about the comet. It makes noises!
What does the mysterious humming mean?
When you take aim at the comet, a strange hum can be heard. We have embedded a video of it here. This has piqued the curiosity of some players. A Reddit user named Lucas7yoshi wanted to know more and recorded the sounds from the game.
He then loaded the sounds into a spectrogram software called “Spek” and had them analyzed. Spectrograms provide a visual representation of sound waves. This can be used to decode secret messages, among other things.
And indeed, his detective work paid off! The spectrogram produced usable image data, specifically the animation for the silly emote dance “Take the L” from the game! We have embedded the song and the spectrogram image from the game here for you.
Why exactly this silly emote is visually represented as sound by the comet and why the developers included such an Easter egg in the game remains a mystery.
Lucas7yoshi has posted a guide on Reddit on how you can determine the animation from the humming using the spectrogram. Have fun experimenting!
