The colorful shooter game Fortnite has launched the new update 17.20. The servers are back online now. MeinMMO shows you the known German patch notes.
What’s going on with Fortnite? The Battle Royale is currently facing an invasion of aliens who are having fun with the players. The new update 17.20 could push these developments forward, but that wasn’t ultimately the case. However, it also brings a new competitive mode called “Bugha’s Late Game” and quality-of-life adjustments for your items. Additionally, there’s a new weapon.
Patch Notes for Update 17.20
What is different now? Update 17.20 brought only a few changes to the game despite the long wait. Here’s what you can expect after the download:
- The new weapon “Grabitron Gun” has already been shown in the trailer for the current season. It can grab and fling things and should appear in the game soon.
- Reactive skin coloring is now available.
- You can now set up your preferred loadout as long wished for, so that items always end up in the same slot.

Fortnite servers are going down – when and for how long?
Downtime start in the morning: The Fortnite servers are already down, and the update is being applied. Currently, you cannot reach the Fortnite servers and cannot start a Battle Royale.
How long will the maintenance take? Based on the experiences of the last weeks and months, the work should be completed by around noon at the latest.
However, technical problems or other delays could lead to an extension of the maintenance work.
When will the patch notes be released? Based on the experience of the last updates in the current chapter of Fortnite, it is likely that there will be no or only superficial patch notes published for the Battle Royale mode. However, you can check the English Trello board of the developers to see which errors in the game are currently being worked on (via trello.com).
What new content does the update 17.20 bring?
What new items will there be? The developers have already announced 2 changes over Twitter@FortniteStatus that are likely included in the update:
- Bugha comes as a new ICON skin and can be purchased in 17.20 via bundle or unlocked in the competition “Bugha’s Late Game”
- With 17.20, settings for preferred item slots will be introduced
What else is suspected? Based on earlier tweets from the developers and datamining findings, there are suspicions that the patch might bring even more:
- Alien ground troops – The developers warned on Twitter a few weeks ago that the aliens might still come into close contact with you
- Coral Castle / underground POI – There are speculations that Coral Castle could disappear from the map after a long time and make way for an underground location that the developers announced on Twitter some time ago
