What’s happening today in Fortnite? The update 16.40 has been announced by Fortnite Status on Twitter and will be rolled out today (via Twitter). The patch is expected to bring some changes to the game.

What’s different now? The update 16.40 brought some changes to the game that may not be immediately obvious. Here’s what to expect after downloading:
- New Mythic Weapon “Spire Guardian’s Ancient Assault Rifle” has been added (via Twitter)
- New location on the map “Isla nublada” – The misty island south of Flush Factory, home to a new NPC (via Twitter)
- The new exotic weapon “Marksman Six Shooter” is now in the game
The update 16.40 brought new weapons and now another exotic weapon for Season 6 has been added. With the Marksman, you can shoot particularly fast – but you must aim well, as there are only 6 shots before reloading, and it does not deal as much damage per hit. Fortnite servers are going down – when and for how long?
Downtime start in the morning: The downtime for the update starts today at 10:00 AM German time. At 9:30 AM, you can join a new match for the last time, afterward the servers will be taken down and Fortnite will be down for a period of time.
How long will the maintenance last? Based on experiences from the past weeks and months, the work should be completed around noon.
Technical issues or other delays could lead to an extension of the maintenance. If that happens, you will find out about it right here on MeinMMO.
When will the patch notes come? Based on past experience from the recent updates in the new chapter of Fortnite, there will likely be no or only superficial patch notes for the battle royale mode.
However, if significant changes are being rolled out, we will gather them for you and add them here in the article as a mini-version of the patch notes.
What new content does update 16.40 bring?
What new features will there be in the battle royale mode? Fortnite Status has highlighted some novelties and changes when announcing the update on Twitter. Here’s what you can expect after the downtime:
- A new exotic weapon: “Marksman Six Shooter”
- More summery scenery for Creative mode
- A new “wild week” starting May 13
- The shotgun “The Dub” is being vaulted
Additionally, today marks the end of the first wild week and thus also the opportunity to get a free pickaxe. We will likely see what the next wild week will bring.
Fortnite does not seem to bring too many changes with update 16.40, but there are a few things to experiment with again – like the new mythic weapon. However, it is likely that several bugs will be fixed as well. It will be exciting, as Season 6 is coming to an end soon.
