In Fortnite an the evening of January 19th at 8:00 PM, the big event “Ice Storm” took place in the game. It lasted only a few moments, but changed the map and brought back the zombies, the Ice Fiends. Additionally, the first Ice Storm challenges in Fortnite are active.
This is what happened: At 8:00 PM on January 19th, the ice ball of Fortnite exploded. From it appeared a figure, the Ice King, and fog rolled in. Then an ethereal, giant figure of the Ice King appeared behind him and summoned the Ice Storm.
This Ice Storm has covered the entire map with snow.
The event itself lasted only a few moments, it was shorter than a minute – but the changes on the map seem to be permanent for now.
The whole map of Fortnite is covered in snow.

Ice Fiends return in Fortnite
This is what has changed in Fortnite: Streams have already shown that the zombies are back: These are PvE opponents in Fortnite’s battle royale. They are the Ice Legion that had been expected. The zombies appeared in challenges for the event.
In English, the monsters are called “Ice Fiends” –there are actually no zombies in Fortnite.
The monsters spawn again around individual shards – like at Halloween.

Further insights from Friday evening:
- The dragon eggs that players have already discovered have not yet hatched.
- At the bunker in Fortnite that was under the iceberg, nothing has happened either.
- The event generated a lot of interest. Streamer Ninja had a peak of 320,000 viewers.
Ice Storm Challenges are active – Here are the rewards
New challenges are live: With the event, new special challenges have gone live.
However, only the first three challenges are currently active:
- You should kill 250 Ice Fiends
- and deal 5000 explosive damage to Ice Fiends
- The third challenge cannot be completed yet – it requires finishing 6 challenges
The other challenges are expected to arrive in the coming days. All of these challenges will likely revolve around dealing damage to and destroying the Ice Fiends in Fortnite.
The last of the 13 challenges will be unlocked in 5 days.
What about the boss fight? Some had expected a big boss fight against the Ice King in Fortnite. So far, there is nothing to see of that. But it could be the big finale for Season 7.
