Fortnite (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) is expected to run not only on all major consoles and PC, but also to be playable simultaneously on all these platforms. The developers at Epic have long advocated for this crossplay, even between PS4 and Xbox One. Microsoft seems to want it now as well.
According to the developers at Epic Games, their mega hit Fortnite should be playable on all major platforms. This has largely been achieved, the colorful shooting fun runs on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and soon also on smartphones. Only the Nintendo Switch is missing.
What is also still missing: crossplay between all platforms!
Almost everyone wants crossplay!
Crossplay refers to a feature that allows players on different platforms to play together. So Xbox with PC or smartphone with the computer. So far, Microsoft has mainly stood out in this regard. Games that run on Xbox One and through the Windows 10 Store can usually be played together. A recent example is Sea of Thieves.
Curiously, there has been no crossplay between PC and Xbox for Fortnite so far. Instead, it worked with Sony’s PlayStation 4. However, it was not compatible with crossplay with Xbox One. Yet both the developers at Epic Games and Microsoft would like to change that.
Epic has announced that crossplay between Xbox One, PC, and smartphones will be happening soon.
But apparently, Microsoft and the Fortnite developers want even more.
Crossplay between Xbox One and PS4 highly desired
On Twitter, Phil Spencer, the Xbox boss at Microsoft, was asked by a fan how things looked with crossplay. He really wants crossplay between PS4 and Xbox One. Spencer responded briefly with “Me 2” – “Me too.”
Shortly thereafter, Epic Games chimed in and said, “We 3!”
@XboxP3 hi. I wanted to ask that can XB1 and PS4 players play together in Fortnite? We really want cross-play system between XB1 and PS4 :/

This means that both Epic and Microsoft would like crossplay with PS4. Technically, there is nothing preventing such collaboration. In the past, it worked for a while because Epic accidentally activated crossplay between the two consoles Xbox One and PS4.
Only Sony has been resisting crossplay with the competing console so far. However, it is good to know that otherwise, everyone would likely want crossplay.
