The Creative Director of Fortnite (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) advocated for crossplay between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One during the “Top Games Awards.” Players want and deserve this!
Crossplay is playing across different consoles or even between PCs and consoles. Players can play together or against each other, even if they are on different platforms.
In the gaming world, this is a rarity.
While Microsoft is considering this feature and allowing gameplay between players on a Windows 10 PC and the Xbox One, Sony has so far vehemently opposed crossplay on the PlayStation 4.
However, crossplay between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is certainly possible and even took place for a short time in Fortnite. The developers at Epic Games accidentally enabled crossplay in Fortnite. The feature was quickly removed, probably under pressure from Sony, but the Fortnite developers do not want to leave it at that.
Fortnite Developer Donald Mustard: “Players want crossplay!”
During the Top Games Awards, Fortnite’s Creative Director, Donald Mustard, was asked about crossplay by host Geoff Keighley. Mustard said that Fortnite is most fun with friends and it is a shame not to be able to play together with buddies due to platform limitations.
“Players want crossplay!” said Mustard. Therefore, Epic Games will do everything possible to make crossplay happen. “Players deserve it!”
Let’s hope that the Fortnite developers succeed with their noble endeavor and that Sony eventually allows crossplay.
In a roadmap, the developers presented numerous innovations for the game. If Fortnite implements all these plans, it will be a really great game!
