In Season 5 – Chapter 2 of Fortnite: Battle Royale, you can complete bounties and collect gold bars. This is a new feature that rewards you with the currency that can be used in the game. We will show you how it works.
This is the new feature: The start of Season 5 brought a new opportunity that you can try out in the game. You will now become bounty hunters and can carry out missions for characters on the map.
When you talk to the characters, they will give you a mission. This marks the hunt for a specific player who is in your game. The goal is to eliminate them before the designated time runs out.
Start the Bounty Hunt – Here’s How It Works
Where to find the quest givers? To start a hunt, you first need to find the NPC characters. They are spread across various locations on the map. However, you can use your mini-map as a guide, as a speech bubble will appear when an NPC is nearby.
There are certain locations where there is a high chance of finding a character. Since they can change their location, it’s not always guaranteed that you will find them at a specific spot again. They should appear at these locations:
How to start a hunt? Once you find a character on the map, you just need to stand in front of them and then interact with them. A selection wheel will open, where you can choose what you want from the NPC. To start a bounty hunt, select the “Bounty” option.
As soon as the mission is accepted, a timer will start. This will show you how much time you have to eliminate the target. Only if you succeed within the given time will you receive the reward for the job. The golden circle that appears on the map marks the area where your target is currently located.

Bounty hunting without NPCs: MeinMMO user “Wolve In The Wall” has another tip on how you can start bounty hunts in the game. This variant works without NPCs, by simply visiting bounty boards.
The boards are located in various places on the map. So far, the following locations are known:
- North of Camp Cod, by the small wooden bridge (Grid F7)
- Northwest of Dirty Docks (Grid H3)
- West of Retail Row, by the green bridge (Grid G4/F4)

Important: If you fail to eliminate the target in time, the player will receive a gold bar for surviving. You go empty-handed and will have to start a new hunt.
What are Gold Bars and how do you get them?
This is the new currency: Bars were introduced at the start of Season 5. They serve as a currency that can only be used in a single game round. You cannot purchase them with real money – they do not work like V-Bucks. Data miners had found this currency some time ago in the data.
The new bounty characters accept gold bars as payment. The bars can be used for the following items:
- Exotic weapons
- Upgrades
- Services: Bodyguards for protection
- Information
How to get gold bars? You can earn bars by successfully completing bounty hunts, eliminating opponents, or finding secret supplies on the island. Additionally, you earn one gold bar each time a bounty is placed on you, provided you survive the hunt.
- For a successful bounty hunt, you get 70 gold bars
- Search chests, as they also drop gold bars
- Using your pickaxe, destroy items like beds, sofas, or cash registers to find more bars
- Eliminated players also drop bars with their loot
- Complete the challenges that reward you with gold bars
Important: The gold bars you find in a round can be stacked and carried over to the next rounds. You can collect as many as possible. However, in Arena mode, you lose all bars after a round.
Once you have collected enough of them, you can use them for cool weapons or upgrades. If you prefer bodyguards, you can hire them for gold bars.
