In Fortnite, developer Epic has decided to disable the rifts. Therefore, the rifts are gone for now until a hotfix is found to resolve the issues with them. This could impact the Summer Skirmish of week 6.
What are rifts? The rifts have been present since the start of Season 5 in Fortnite. After the rocket somehow blew a hole in the world at the end of Season 4, the rifts are active in regular matches of Fortnite: Battle Royale.
Whoever dives into a rift will be catapulted back into the air and can jump again as if they just exited the Battle Bus. The rifts were also significant for a challenge.
What’s happening now? There is a bug with the rifts, which is why Epic has disabled them in all game modes. The rifts will remain gone until Epic develops a fix to reopen the rifts.
When the rifts will come back is still unknown.
Golf Kart + Rift = God Mode in Fortnite?
What was the bug? Officially, Epic is not saying anything. However, Fortnite fans are discussing the glitch on reddit.
Allegedly, players could drive a golf kart into a rift, then be teleported up into the air, so high that they wouldn’t get caught by the storm. The bug reportedly granted a sort of God mode.
Golf karts have been causing trouble in Fortnite and have been disabled multiple times. This time, it seems the rifts have been affected.
However, it cannot be fully confirmed if this is really the glitch that caused the rifts to be closed.
Rifts should disappear anyway: This is a strange coincidence, as there have recently been rumors and findings from data miners.
In the last week, data miners reported that the rifts will soon disappear from Fortnite for story reasons. Apparently, a bug preceded this.
Especially interesting: The rifts were disabled just a few hours before the start of week 6 of the Summer Skirmishes. This could therefore affect the eSports this weekend.
Rifts back
Since Saturday morning, around 6:00 a.m. our time, the rifts in Fortnite are active again. Epic announced this via Twitter.
