In Fortnite, a lot has changed since Chapter 4. Better graphics, a new meta, and changes in the Battle Pass now adorn the Battle Royale shooter. However, a change in the system is not well received, and that is the alteration of the Weekly Challenges.
What is being criticized in Fortnite? In Fortnite, not only many bugs and errors in the game have been criticized, but also the changes regarding the Weekly Challenges. The challenges have been modified in such a way that they no longer remain active for an entire season as before, but only for the week for which they are intended.
This means: If you did not complete your challenges in the first week of Chapter 4 Season 1, you are out of luck and lose the XP that was available to be earned.
While it is currently unclear why Epic Games is overhauling its functioning system, players definitely know how they feel about it: They do not like it and want Epic to revert this change.
Fortnite creates more FOMO through changes
What is FOMO? The term FOMO stands for “Fear of missing out”. Some game titles like Destiny 2 take advantage of this fear of players to keep them engaged in their game long-term.
Fortnite is no exception; while Battle Passes have always been seen as indicators of FOMO, the adjustment to the Weekly Challenges intensifies the feeling of fear of missing out even more.
What do players say about the change? Players are not satisfied with this change at all. For this reason, fans are taking to reddit and Twitter to demand that Epic Games revert its adjustment. Players comment as follows:
- @omegastoopreme – “Remove the expiration date… Bring them back to the state they have always been in. No one likes it when they are time-limited!”
- @dalington – “I used to try to complete all my quests, but since you changed the system, I have trouble finishing them.”
- @OmgBellTwT – “Remove that damn time limit now.”
- @MahiMishall – “LET THE QUESTS LAST FOREVER, DO NOT RESET THEM AT THE END OF THE WEEK PLEASE.”
It becomes clear in the comments that players want the old system back, allowing them to decide when to complete their tasks.
Will the system change again? That is hard to estimate. Epic Games is known for listening to its community and responding to negative feedback.
However, it could be a test where the developers want to see how players react to such a change. This way, the overall response of the community could be collected, evaluated, and it would be decided whether it continues in Season 2 or if it will be changed again.
It remains to be seen what Epic Games has in store. How are you doing with your tasks? Do you think it is bad that you are forced to play Fortnite when the tasks require it? Let us know!
