A fraudster attempted to gain an advantage by cheating in a major Fortnite tournament. Now there are quite clear consequences.
How was there cheating? Epic Games released a statement through the official Fortnite Competitive channel explaining that legal action had been taken against a cheating player.
The player under the name RepulseGod had shared an account with a teammate during the qualification for the largest Fortnite tournament, the FNCS World Championship, in order to gain an advantage.
For this fraud, the player now has to pay – in both a literal and figurative sense. Because the consequences for the player are severe.
Player apologizes, talks about the nature of his punishment
The statement from the Fortnite channel not only announced that the player is permanently banned from Fortnite tournaments, but also that he had to return his undeserved prize money. Epic then donated this money to a charitable cause. The player himself confirmed this – as an apology video from the player lasting twenty seconds was added to the statement.
You can watch the video here:
RepulseGod admits again that he shared his account during the qualification for the 2023 FNCS Grand Finals. That was against the rules and there was a disqualification in the tournament.
RepulseGod also confirms the ban and that he had to pay money as part of a settlement, which also included his prize money.
Finally, he emphasizes: “Cheating in tournaments ruins the fun for players who have earned their place in the tournament and I apologize to the Fortnite community for my actions. I will never cheat in Fortnite again.”
Fortnite announced such consequences: Already in Winter 2024, Fortnite announced that from now on they would be taking harsher action against cheaters. For instance, team members who play with cheaters would also be banned. Legal action had also been announced by Fortnite at that time – and they are evidently going through with it now.
That these consequences against a cheater are not only taken but also presented so publicly can certainly be understood as a warning to other cheaters. Namely, that they should think twice about cheating in a tournament.
Even outside the competitive environment, Fortnite is entering a new phase. After the last season, in which Godzilla stomped over the map and caused chaos, Season 2 of Chapter 6 is now on the horizon. There is already a lot of information available, and it starts on February 21. You can find all information about Chapter 6, Season 2 in Fortnite here.
