In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Android, Switch & Xbox One) has once again caused trouble due to a bug. The professional player Nate Hill from Team FaZe potentially lost one of the matches simply because his pickaxe was bugged.
The bug with the pickaxe: A rare bug in Fortnite makes your pickaxe unusable. You can no longer break anything with it. This became Nate Hill from Team FaZe’s downfall in one of the final rounds of the Summer Skirmish.
Player gets stuck in a building, falls to death
What exactly happened to Nate Hill? One of the last rounds in the Summer Skirmish tournament was in its final seconds. The storm was closing in for the last time and Nate Hill was trapped in a tall building.
He needed to go down immediately to shoot the last remaining enemy before the storm would take care of Nate Hill.
So Nate pulled out the pickaxe and tried to hack through the floor of the building. But the bug prevented that. Thus, Nate Hill lost valuable seconds until he finally pulled out the shotgun and simply blasted the floor away.
However, that didn’t help, as Nate fell into the depths and crashed to the ground. The victory went to his opponent, and Hill himself reacted with considerable frustration, as you can see in the video.
Would he have won without the bug?
Controversial outcome: Whether the bug was truly the deciding factor in Nate Hill’s loss is controversial among the viewers of the game. He had fewer hitpoints than his opponent and would likely have soon perished in the storm.
On the other hand, Hill might have easily shot down his similarly wounded opponent with his weapon if he had escaped the building in time.
Moreover, the bug noticeably caused stress and distraction, as one must rely on the game functioning exactly as practiced, especially as a professional.
Bugs plague the major tournament
Much money is at stake: The Summer Skirmish, the first official Fortnite tournament, is equipped with $8 million in prize money. So there is a lot of money at stake, and a bug in the last seconds of a match is very unfortunate.
