Fortnite brings the characters of a popular cartoon series into the game. And even if it looks like a really good crossover, fans are disappointed because an important character was simply forgotten.
Together with the hotfix for the battle royale update V.29.20, elements were introduced in Fortnite on April 12, 2024. This brought the characters and bending techniques from the series “Avatar – The Last Airbender” into the game.
Elements is set to run until May 3, 2024, and during this time you can master the elements of water, fire, air, and earth using the bending techniques and complete elemental quests. You can find detailed information about elements on the official website (via fortnite.com).
Which characters are included? As the trailer shows, Fortnite brings the following characters into the game:
- The Avatar Aang.
- The waterbender Katara.
- The firebender Zuko.
- And the earthbender Toph.
Many fans are excited about this crossover and already describe Fortnite as the best Avatar game we’ve ever had. Unfortunately, previous attempts to create a game set in the world of Avatar have not been very successful or satisfying. For example, the game “Quest for Balance,” released in 2023, received mostly negative reviews on Steam.
Who is missing from the game? While the crossover looks really good and especially excites Avatar fans wanting to fight as a bender, one character was unfortunately not included in the game. Sokka, Katara’s brother and an important member of the “Gaang,” was apparently overlooked in Fortnite.
And I find that a real disgrace considering that Sokka is the only “real” warrior among the friends.
Sokka may not be a bender, but his sword is still in Fortnite
While Sokka may not possess bending powers, I don’t think that’s a reason to exclude him from the game. On the contrary, I believe that including Sokka would have worked really well for the crossover. Unlike Aang, Katara, and Zuko, Sokka has to focus on combat techniques and weapons. He would have been perfectly compatible with the weapons in Fortnite.
Instead, at one point in the trailer, Toph is seen running with two massive hammers in hand. And the young earthbender is probably the least dependent on extra weapons. After all, she could simply strike her opponents with massive rocks.
One might justify leaving Sokka out by saying they wanted to focus on the benders. Instead, they even included Sokka’s “space sword” as a reward in the game. A sword that he forged himself and which carries significant meaning for him.
Another really nasty move, if you ask me.
The community is also complaining that Sokka is missing from the game
What does the community say? While enthusiasm for the crossover is indeed high, many players miss the warrior from the Southern Water Tribe. This is evident from the comments under the trailer (via YouTube).
One user simply quotes Sokka himself, writing: “I can still fight!” At one point in the series, he stands up for himself like this, as he is sometimes simply ignored because he has no powers. In response to the comment, another user agrees that they are treating Sokka disrespectfully here.
The user crashingcoyote notes in response to the question about Sokka that it’s called elements and then of course asks the correct question of which element Sokka bends? One answer is simply: “Boomerang.” Another user replies: “The element of surprise.” In response, crashingcoyote admits that Sokka would have simply been too powerful with his boomerang.
