In Fortnite there are skins that have been in the game for a long time. After some time, they return as completely “new” skins in the item shop. MeinMMO author Eilyn Rapp unfortunately keeps falling for this.
What kind of skins are these? Here we mean skins that have either been available in the item shop or were part of a battle pass. After a while, Epic brings these back, but they have been restyled.
Sometimes these are added as style options to the original skin, which makes the most sense to me because you don’t have to spend additional money. But that’s not always the case, as sometimes they are offered as completely “new” skins separately.
Here’s a skin that has exactly happened:
This is what it looks like: Zoey was a skin from the battle pass of Season 4 in Chapter 1. Almost 10 seasons later, the newly styled Zoey was offered in the summer package. It’s the same skin, but somehow completely different. I must say that this worked extremely well for me. I never liked the original Zoey skin, but when I saw the new variant, I had to buy the package immediately.
An additional example was the Brite Bomber skin. This was introduced in Season 1, during the early days of Fortnite. It was also the first skin I ever bought. This skin lingered in my locker until the Beach Bomber variant appeared in the item shop.
Here too, I quickly whipped out my wallet, after all, it was a summer variant of the first skin that ever landed in my locker. That’s something special! It’s still the same skin just with summer clothes – a little silly.
Why do I keep buying them?
That’s the problem with skins: There are several other examples where this method has been used. And if I’m honest, I’ve bought a few (okay, many) of them. I really should have learned my lesson and finally stopped spending money on recycled skins.
I would much prefer it if Epic would bring completely new skins that are also unique. That would make things much livelier, and I wouldn’t have to feel foolish for buying the “same” skin again.
The next old skins with new styling: But unfortunately, it doesn’t stop because I already have my eye on the next package of old skins that I could treat myself to soon. It’s about a skin package leaked by data miners. It fits perfectly into the Halloween season, which is my favorite time of the year. This is what it looks like:
So, do you notice anything? Yes, these 3 are skins that have previously existed in modified form. You can also find all the originals in my locker, and they are ones that I have always really liked:
- Arachne from Season 6
- Darkness from the Battle Pass of Season 6
- Ghoul Trooper from Season 6
If this package really comes out, I know for sure that I will buy it. I just can’t help it because even though they are skins that are originally already waiting in the locker, they look so cool with their new styling.
Yes, I feel totally silly for continuously falling for this trick, but honestly, Epic does it just too well. And if I have a weakness, it’s Fortnite skins that I can collect. But there are also some mistakes I regret buying to this day.
What about you? Have you also bought the “new” variant of old skins?
