In Fortnite , a live event will start tonight, on May 4th. We will see when the event begins and what we know about it. A lot could change tonight.
Update 8:43 PM: It’s now just before the event and as expected, most modes in Fortnite are disabled. A new mode is now available: “Open Vault.”
This suggests that the leaks about the “Nexus Event” are true – there could be a vote on which of 6 items will return.

Original report:
What kind of event is this? This is the event marking the end of Season 8 in Fortnite, which has been hinted at for weeks through runes.
Meanwhile, a countdown has appeared in Fortnite which is counting down. This countdown is located above Loot Lake.
It is clear that something big is happening tonight, Saturday, May 4th.

When is the Live Event in Fortnite today?
When does the countdown end? The countdown ends on Saturday, May 4th, at 9:00 PM our time.
Then the Fortnite event should start today.
What happens when the countdown ends? We do not fully know yet, but there are hints about what is likely to happen:
- All game modes will likely be disabled again, except for one option, similar to the Marshmello event. Anyone wanting to play Fortnite will have to do so in this event mode.

How might the map change?
- It is highly likely that the volcano in the northeast of the island could erupt.
- If it erupts, it is expected that Retail Row and Tilted Towers will be changed or even destroyed.
- It is also possible that something will happen in Polar Peak, the ice region of Fortnite.

This might still change in Fortnite: What data miners have also found is a large event at Loot Lake, where the countdown is also taking place. This is called “the Nexus event.”
Under Loot Lake, there is said to be an “alien structure” underground. Apparently, Epic is planning an event where players can vote on which of 6 items that once were in Fortnite but got removed will come back to the game.
These are the 6 items:
- the Infinity Blade
- the Plane
- the Grappler
- the Tactical SMG
- the Bounce Pads
- or the Drum Gun
Currently, one should be more cautious near Loot Lake than usual, as Epic has already warned on Twitter. Otherwise, one could end up like Tfue in this clip (via dexerto):
We will be reporting on the event in Fortnite tonight at MeinMMO.
