This tactic was discovered in Fortnite with the new update, but only works with a paid skin and emote.
This is what happened: With Update 15.30, Fortnite received a new, interesting location: “Kit’s Cantina”. There, the Mandalorian from the namesake Star Wars series is causing trouble. In the cantina, players discovered a trick that some, like YouTuber SypherPK, already call Pay2Win.
Why should this be Pay2Win? The trick only works with a paid skin and an emote. It provides advantages that only players who have paid money can use. But what kind of trick is this?
Players disguise themselves as a hologram with a skin
The users of this trick use the Breakpoint skin, which was available for purchase in the Fortnite Item Shop for real money. It was part of the Breakpoint Pack and was released in June 2019. However, as of August 1, 2019, this pack is no longer available in the shop.
Additionally, the Accolades emote is used to mimic the movements of the hologram. With this skin and the emote, the movements of the hologram can be performed in Kit’s Cantina – with strikingly similar appearance.
Players often do not notice in the heat of battle and confuse the tricksters with the hologram as seen in this gameplay by HJDoogan:
So you should pay attention to this hologram in the future, in case more players come up with the idea of exploiting the trick. Whether this really is Pay2Win is probably a matter of opinion. It could just be seen as a funny tactic to trick other players.
However, Fortnite repeatedly struggles with accusations of Pay2Win. Most recently, there were superhero skins, that were so powerful they had to be adjusted.
They could adjust their colors, making the wearers of the skins nearly invisible. Even after an initial adjustment, there was still trouble.
What do you think of such tricks? Are the players themselves to blame if they are so careless? Or is this an unfair advantage acquired by the buyers? Let us know in the comments.
