During the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the popular video game Fortnite plays a role. Striker star Antoine Griezmann celebrates in the round of 16 “France-Argentina” like in the game after scoring his goal to make it 1-0. This is what the Fortnite celebration looked like that millions witnessed.
Take the L: Striker star Antoine Griezmann scored a penalty goal to make it 1-0 in the round of 16 match between France and Argentina. He celebrated in Fortnite style. He danced the emote “Take the L” – perhaps the most famous gesture from Fortnite. The dance is also known as “Loser Dance”.
This is exactly how it looked: After Griezmann cleanly converted the penalty, he ran to the corner flag holding up the “L” by forming the letter with the index finger and thumb of his right hand. Just before reaching the corner flag, as his teammates caught up with him, he performed the little dance. The dance comes from the reboot of Stephen King’s “IT.”

What else does Fortnite have to do with the World Cup?
Soccer skins in Fortnite style: Fortnite likes to take real-life spectacles like the FIFA World Cup as an opportunity to incorporate them into the game. Thus, there were special soccer skins in Fortnite. The joke here: One could buy a single skin and customize it to their own country.
Kick the ball into the goal: Currently, there is still a challenge for the Battle Pass of Season 4 active. In the challenges, players have to kick footballs through improvised goals on soccer fields in the game. This earns points for the Battle Pass and thus rewards.
Soccer players like to celebrate in Fortnite style: It is new for a star like Griezmann to celebrate at the World Cup. However, soccer players have already danced like in Fortnite before.
