For Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) new game modes are regularly introduced that significantly shake up the gameplay. On Thursday, a mode will arrive where five teams of 20 compete for victory.
Fortnite: Battle Royale is more successful on Twitch than the competitor PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and the developers are eager for more. As announced, they are rapidly releasing new content. Alongside cool outfits, there are new game modes each week. Recently, the “Pure Gold” mode was introduced, where all weapons had legendary status.
Next up are 20-player teams!
20-Player Teams in Battle Royale
So far, the new mode is only visible as an announcement on the login screen. However, it is evident what it entails. There will be 20-player teams. This means that with 100 players, 5 such large teams will compete for victory. It should resemble the 50vs.50 mode from the past.
Then the players would still be divided into squads of 4, which would integrate better into a 20-player team than in the old 50-player mode. So, if exactly 100 players participate, each team should consist of 5 squads of 4 players.
In the 50 vs. 50 mode, you could only chat with squad members, there was no friendly fire, and you could only see where the other players in your large team were after landing.
Better than 50 vs 50?
Many players find the idea of 20-player teams better than the 50vs50 mode. Mainly because it leads to less chaos and player squads can work out ideally. However, often the necessary 100 players do not come together in one match, so some teams would still be outnumbered.
But theoretically, this problem also exists in the regular team mode. In any case, players agree: Fortnite is growing and thriving. The developers are enthusiastic and taking advantage of the momentum to expand their player base and experiment with a plethora of new ideas.

The new game mode will arrive on servers on Thursday, March 8. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, new modes typically come on patch days, which are traditionally on Thursdays. Since the mode will be online for a short time, it will likely be gone again by the following Monday.
Unpleasant and not intended: Players forming teams in solo mode!
