With the latest update 4.0, the map in Fortnite: Battle Royale has changed dramatically. Not only does a huge crater now adorn the landscape, but you can also explore secret superhero hideouts. What purpose do they serve? Is a major villain preparing an attack here?
Some changes to the map are immediately noticeable: Dusty Depot is destroyed, and there is now a gigantic crater at that location. You will find an excavation site there and mysterious stones that allow you to jump higher and further.
However, some changes are not visible to the naked eye. Players have ventured out to thoroughly explore the map. They found hidden spots beneath the map, which house rocket silos and mysterious control panels.
Is a superhero war brewing here? Or are the hideouts merely for an undiscovered, weekly challenge?
Where are the superhero hideouts? Three of these underground bases have been discovered so far:
- One new house is located at the eastern edge of the map, and a bunker can be accessed underground.
- Another rocket silo can be found near Snobby Shores.
- The third hideout is located in Salty Springs.
Secret Base near Snobby Shores
Near Snobby Shores, there is a rocket launch pad, beneath which lies an underground base. But beware: Anyone who falls down the rocket should expect heavy fall damage.
Anyone who examines the base closely will find that the builders probably have nothing good in mind. There is even a bedroom. Who lives in the base? And what are their motives?
Secret Bunker at the Eastern Edge of the Map
Another secret hideout is located beneath a new villa in the far east of the map (south of Lonely Lodge). Anyone who doesn’t want to believe that the bunkers have anything to do with the superhero theme might be convinced otherwise by the superhero mask in the corner:

The third secret bunker is located in Salty Springs – more specifically, beneath the gray-blue house in the southwest:
However, the entrance is well hidden. Go to the basement of the house. Here, you can destroy debris under the stairs, which reveals a hole beneath the steps:
In this bunker, you can discover not only a few treasure chests but also fitness equipment.
What purpose do the superhero hideouts serve? This is not known. Some players suspect that they announce an epic battle between superheroes and villains. The truth is likely to be much more mundane.
Thus, it is likely that the three hideouts need to be found as part of a weekly challenge.
