Fortnite receives the long-awaited PvP mode Battle Royale for free today, on September 26, 2017, with update 1.6.3 for PC as well as consoles PS4 and Xbox One. In addition to the free-for-all mode, there will be a squad mode for up to four players.
Fortnite recently announced a PvP mode called Battle Royale. It plays like the genre giant PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. You parachute down with 99 other players onto an island and spend the rest of your time slaughtering each other.
In contrast to PUBG, you can destroy almost everything in the game and build your own structures and traps.
Battle Royale now with Squad Mode
The new game mode for Fortnite launches today with patch 1.6.3. In addition to the playable test version, the release version of Battle Royale has its own squad mode. Here you can team up with up to three other players. You can invite your friends and, if necessary, fill the team with randomly selected players.
Keep in mind that, like in PUBG, friendly fire applies in squad mode. You can shoot your teammates, and anyone who does so intentionally risks a ban. Unlike in solo mode, you can be revived by your teammates for a short time if you get shot. A special duo mode, where the team size is limited to two players, will follow later.
Supply crates and Free2Play PvP
Also new: Occasionally, crates with even more weapons will be dropped over the map. Additionally, there are three new firearms in the PvP mode. And: The PvP mode is free to play. Only those who want to go on zombie hunts in the PvE mode will need to purchase Fortnite.
Since the Battle Royale mode for Fortnite closely resembles the gameplay of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, there has been some trouble between the developers Bluehole and Epic Games. This, however, mainly sparked interest in Fortnite and tarnished Bluehole’s reputation.
