Epic brings even more tactical variants to Fortnite: Battle Royale. According to an in-game message, players can soon look forward to jetpacks. How will they work and change the game? We speculate!
With the jump pads, Epic has brought the game vertically, regardless of the building mode. Since then, dozens of curious videos have circulated, showing the jump pad as the originator of many epic victories, where the opponent is surprised and outmaneuvered.

The jump pads are also excellent for escaping the storm, as they significantly accelerate the player.
With the jetpacks, Epic is now bringing a new tool to Fortnite: Battle Royale, which aims to make the vertical gameplay even more diverse. An in-game message teases the rocket backpack:
How the jetpacks will function exactly is not known – we make a forecast!
First hints of corresponding game modes in the developer update
That Epic will use the jetpack for new game modes could already be inferred from the developer update version 4. A dozen new modes were announced in this update. Among other things, it is mentioned in a footnote that players who touch the ground will lose.
A “The Floor is Lava” game mode would be perfectly suited for the jetpacks. There is lively discussion on Reddit about the functionality of the new item.

How will the jetpack work? Will you be able to shoot while using it? Or will the jetpack be similar to the jump pad?
This is how the jetpack could function in Fortnite: Battle Royale!
The jetpack will likely catapult you into the air. How long players can stay in the air and what actions they can perform while there remain unclear. The following functionalities are being debated:
- The jetpack works similarly to the jump pad – but instead of a trap, it is a consumable item. A popular theory that is probably not true. To achieve the same effect as the jump pad, no new item is needed. Instead, Epic could simply increase the frequency of the jump pads (which are currently extremely rare).
- You have a limited fuel supply that you must manage. The most likely scenario – You can gain altitude at the push of a button and consume fuel while doing so. When the fuel runs out, you fall like a stone from the sky. You won’t be able to use weapons during this time – such a function would likely make the item too powerful.
Furthermore, it is still unclear whether the jetpack can only be used once or can be reused multiple times – but must be recharged between uses. The limited fuel is also suggested by the two displays on the side of the jetpack.

Epic’s course is clear from the latest updates – the endgame is to become more dynamic. Especially in team modes, the endgame often consists of sniper or rocket duels from self-built fortifications.
The minigun was supposed to break this tactical pattern – with moderate success. Will the jetpacks ensure that the fights for the epic victory become even more dynamic and exciting? Time will tell.
We are definitely excited! We can expect the update sometime in the current week from February 26 to March 2!
Update 21:00: Jetpacks were canceled at the last minute and replaced with this:
No jetpack in Fortnite: Battle Royale – the hunting rifle is coming
What do you think of the jetpacks? What do you believe how they will function?
