In Fortnite, many skins have already made their way through the item shop. However, some of them were so controversial that Epic Games silently put them in the vault. We show you a skin that is controversial but still desired by many players.
What does “vaulted” mean? In gaming terminology, the term is used to describe that certain things are packed away in a digital safe. This can include weapons, environments, items, but also skins, as in this case.
The contents are thus removed from the game or from the shop, but not completely deleted. There is a possibility that contents will return from the vault – or remain in it forever.
Especially the online shooters Fortnite and Destiny 2 rely on such a “content vault.”
The Rue skin is controversial – players still demand it
What kind of skin is this? This skin is called “Rue.” The character that the skin depicts comes from the agent organization “Shadow” and belongs to the villains in Chapter 2 Season 2.
It has two styles in red and black.
The female skin wears a leather and latex coat with long black gloves, black boots, and a devilish red glasses with two spikes. Her coat is adorned with the logo of the organization, which is located on her upper arm.
The skin was last in the Fortnite item shop 544 days ago.
What is controversial about the skin? Players tweeted on Epic Games’ post from April 2020 (via Twitter) that this skin reminds them a lot of a Nazi. Apparently, some players see striking parallels between the aesthetics of the Fortnite skin and SS officer uniforms.
Anyone who knows Epic Games knows that items, dances, or skins that have caused problems are indirectly pushed into the vault so that they can no longer see the light of the Fortnite world.
Epic Games has not yet commented on this. Nevertheless, players speculate that Fortnite does this with some items, which are somewhat controversial or even frowned upon and could cause problems.
What do players say about it? There is a post on Reddit that mocks that the developers are putting effort into creating items just to end up forgotten in the vault 2 years later. It becomes clear that many players demand this skin, despite its controversial appearance. One Reddit user writes:
It didn’t help that when the skin was released, people spammed all over the internet that it looked like a Nazi officer. I’m not saying that’s why it was vaulted, but still… these days, it’s pretty easy to get ‘canceled’ for any reason.

Another user on Reddit also writes:
[…] but no matter how you put it, having a “Nazi” as a playable character makes the game look questionable.

Epic probably didn’t expect this skin to have such an effect on the community. It should be clear that the developers of Fortnite want to create a good environment for playing with friends and not to glorify fascist content.
What do you think of the skin? Do you find it cool or do you say that such a skin has no place in Fortnite? Let us know in the comments!
