In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS & Xbox One) is apparently back in the game with Patch 3.5, the notorious double pump trick. It is most likely a bug that accidentally made its way into the game. Additionally, the guided missile has been temporarily disabled.
Previously, there was a nasty trick in Fortnite: Battle Royale: With the so-called “double pump trick,” skilled players could shoot incredibly fast with 2 shotguns. The shotguns actually have a long reload time.
But if you had several of them in your inventory, you could immediately switch to the next shotgun after firing and shoot again. Good players cleared entire teams with precise headshots at close range.
Since this trick was clearly not intended, the developers at Epic Games removed the double pump trick some time ago. Or did they?
The double pump is back
Streamer Jason Ruchelski played a round of Fortnite shortly after the latest Patch 3.5. He immediately noticed that the pump shotgun seemingly masters the old double pump trick again. In a video, he shows how he fires quickly and the animation looks quite strange.
So what happened? Was the old shotgun trick patched back into the game?
Patch 3.5 changed some animations of the pump shotgun
A look at the patch notes for Fortnite Update 3.5 shows that the developers actually changed something about the shotgun:
- Many weapons have received a short equipping time (especially those with lower rate of fire).
- This is intended to reduce the effectiveness of fast weapon switches for high damage over a short time.
- The reload animation of the pump shotgun has been removed.
It seems that this is where the problem lies. Currently, it seems the shotgun no longer has a reload animation, but the fast weapon switch is probably possible again.
Guided missiles temporarily removed from the game
The animation bug seems to affect even more weapons. In a recent tweet, Epic Games announced that the guided missiles are currently disabled until the bug is fixed.
Due to an animation issue with the Guided Missile, we’re temporarily disabling it until we have a fix. We’ll update you once it’s resolved!

Considering the speed at which the developers usually fix bugs, it is quite likely that Epic Games will resolve this issue soon with a hotfix. Until then, you should beware of shotguns or get your old double pump skills back out. And lengthy rocket rides are canceled for now.
