Fortnite: Battle Royale can now be played thanks to unrestricted crossplay on all supported platforms. Sony has finally relented on this issue. But what about the Fortnite accounts that were previously tied to Sony?
The missing crossplay between Xbox and Switch to Sony’s PlayStation 4 was frustrating for many players, but it wasn’t the real reason for the outrage and the shitstorm that players directed at Sony recently.
Fortnite accounts held hostage: Rather, the Fortnite community was upset that thousands of Fortnite accounts were effectively “held hostage” by Sony in the PlayStation Network.
Because anyone who linked their Epic account with the PlayStation 4 in good faith could not use that Fortnite account on Nintendo’s console later with the release of the Switch shooter. Instead, they had to create a new account specifically for the Switch and thus had no access to their achievements and skins.
Sony finally frees your accounts
Sony has now announced that all account locks in the PlayStation Network have been lifted. You can now use your Epic account on Switch or Xbox One again.
What if I already created a new account? Even in this case, help is to be provided. Epic has announced that you will soon be able to merge your accounts in this situation, thus consolidating skins and achievements.
How this merging will exactly work and what happens if you have certain skins double will be revealed in the coming weeks. The merging feature is expected with one of the upcoming updates in Fortnite.
