In Fortnite (PC, PS4, Xbox One), a player’s account was hacked. The thief then spent their money, and there was no cash left for the due rent. Epic has helped the player and wants to prevent this from happening in the future. But that takes time.
A reddit user recently described his unfortunate situation. While the rest of the Fortnite players complained about not being able to play due to downtime, imPluR420 shared his own, much harder predicament.
His account with Epic was hacked. The worst part: The account was linked to his PayPal account. The account was charged $39.99, $99.99, and $49.99 in a short period, totaling almost 200 US dollars.
Now the player lacked the money to pay his rent. The player was desperate and hoped to reach the developers via reddit after his email to them had gone unanswered for 30 hours.

Fortnite Developers Help Player in Distress
And indeed: The developers at Epic responded on reddit almost immediately. They refunded him for the deductions and even gave him an additional 5000 V-Bucks.
The player thanked everyone who had kept his reddit thread active and recommended: “Guys, get a secure password. You can never be careful enough online.”
Epic is Working on Two-Factor Authentication
To prevent such incidents from happening in the future, Epic is working on two-factor authentication. Players will receive an email with an additional code once they have entered their password.

This feature has been planned for a while but is not yet active. Epic emphasizes how important this feature is and that they are working hard to provide it as soon as possible.
Caution is always advisable, but especially with Fortnite currently. The shooter has come under the crosshairs of scammers and swindlers due to its high popularity:
