In Fortnite , pro player FaZe Sway is accused of cheating in the solo tournament “Fortnite Cash Cup.” He allegedly collaborated with a second player – that would be against the rules. A clip of this is circulating on Twitter. Opinions are divided.
This is the accusation: Fortnite player Sour claims he was killed by player Whistles in the “Fortnite Solo Cash Cup.”
FaZe Sway allegedly “played together,” so they were “teaming.” This is explicitly against the rules of the solo cup. Players are not allowed to communicate with each other or cooperate when playing solo in Fortnite.
The clip shows: In a clip on Twitter, the replay of the play is seen from FaZe Sway’s perspective, a well-known Fortnite pro and Twitch streamer. FaZe is considered one of the most important eSport organizations in the world.
FaZe Sway flies to a fight between two players, observes the fight but does not intervene himself.
He seemingly waits until Sour is dead, leaves the killer Whistles alone and goes his own way.
For the victim Sour, this is an injustice.
Teaming through inaction
What makes this so difficult? It is difficult to decide whether FaZe Sway is really teaming here. He does not actively intervene in the fight, which is unusual in itself.
Normally, one would expect him to approach aggressively and attack Whistles from behind. That is usually how Fortnite is played. It is common to seize opportunities for kills.
In the past, there have been clear cases of “teaming” in Fortnite, where players wanted to secure kills and thus points for World Cup qualification. Players were disqualified and criticized for this. It is not so clear here.
This is how it is being discussed: On Twitter, players are controversially discussing the clip:
- Some tell the victim “Just get better” – nothing is happening
- Others say he shouldn’t make such a fuss, he couldn’t have won any money anyway
- People supporting Sour do see problems with Sway’s behavior. It looks like he and Whistles are in connection and coordinating.
- Others say this is a sign that big names like “FaZe Sway” can get away with anything while unknown players are heavily punished.

In “Battle Royale” games like Fortnite, teaming is regularly a topic – recently in Apex Legends as well. Players should actually go against each other with maximum aggression, but this is sometimes lacking for tactical reasons:
