In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Switch & Xbox One) something has changed again. The mysterious rocket in the supervillain hideout is apparently about to launch according to a mysterious countdown. Can players fire the rocket?
What is the deal with the rocket? Shortly after the launch of Season 4 of Fortnite, players discovered the rocket. It appears to be a cruise missile located in the base of a supervillain at Snobby Shores.
So far, the rocket is only in its launch silo. But something is happening with the thing now, and an additional bonus title screen also suggests an imminent launch.
Screens show skulls and countdown
What are the clues for the rocket launch? Currently, when you see screens on televisions in Fortnite, you can see the logo of a square skull. This perfectly corresponds to the shape of the supervillain hideout where the rocket can be found.
What is happening in the villain’s base? It seems like a lot is happening there too. Hop Rocks are scattered everywhere, the lights on the rocket are glowing red, and a red hologram featuring a rocket image has suddenly become active.
Countdown on the Switch: Additionally, some players report that in the Switch version of Fortnite, you can see a kind of countdown. Is it the countdown to the rocket launch on Tuesday evening?
A similar game was played by Epic at the end of Season 3. There, a llama and a countdown until the end of the season were displayed.
Dataminers find clues about rocket launch by player hand
The theory about the rocket countdown is further backed up. The famous dataminers “DieBuddies” have already found clues and claim: “The rocket launches on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at 6:00 PM our time”.
Moreover, the Buddies are convinced: Players will be able to launch the rocket. There’s supposed to be a hint in the code for a launch button for the rocket.
After today’s patch, a second countdown appeared
Update 19.6. 8 PM: At the expected time, nothing happened. The countdown on the Switch televisions is now gone – the screens are black. However, the countdown has moved since patch 4.4 today.
Since the patch right before the rocket: Now the countdown is directly in front of the gigantic rocket in Fortnite. Players on all platforms can see it in the supervillain hideout. However, it seems that not every player can see the countdown. The countdown seems to be counting down to Saturday, June 23. We will continue to follow this on Mein MMO.
What will the rocket do once it takes off?
Currently, there are various fan theories about what exactly the rocket is supposed to do:
- Destroy Tilted Towers: Perhaps the rocket will finally put an end to Tilted Towers. However, parts of the settlement were already damaged after the meteor strike.
- Eradicate Moisty Mire: According to some clues for the start of Season 4, this place is supposed to be wiped out at the end.
- Trigger an alien invasion: Since the visitor is playing around in a bonus screen by the rocket, it could very well be that he wants to report back to his alien buddies about the upcoming invasion.
- Release Hop Rock energy across the map: The Hop Rocks from the crater were transported to the base in a convoy. It seems that the rocket is full of them. When launched, it could release the energy of the rocks across the whole map and change it permanently.
- Blow up the bunker in Wailing Woods: Then we would finally find out what is behind the hatch.
- Kill all players in a freely selectable target area: Perhaps the rocket is an essential part of a new game mechanic. Whoever launches it might be able to name a target area where it will then land and cause massive damage. Maybe the rocket is even part of a new game mode.
