In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Switch & Xbox One) the first teaser for Season 5 has appeared. It shows a kind of animal mask and tempts with the start date of the 5th Battle Pass Season.
The teaser is here! As Season 3 was slowly coming to an end ten weeks ago, Epic brought daily well-timed teaser images from the next season. That seemed to work well for Epic, and they are starting another such action before Season 4. Three days before the start of Season 5 there are again cryptic teaser images from Epic about the upcoming content!
What kind of mask is that?
The first image for Season 5: Via Twitter, Epic Games has only shown the image of a strange, decorated animal mask. Underneath it, it still says Fortnite: Season 5. In the game itself, the image in the news has the subtitle “Worlds Collide!”.
Is it a Japanese fox? The animal mask is not easily identifiable. It resembles a Japanese theatrical mask and could represent a fox. In Japanese mythology, fox spirits (Kitsune) are shape-shifting tricksters who cause all sorts of mischief.
Or an Egyptian cat? Other fans see in the animal an Egyptian cat. In some depictions, the cat goddess Bastet is shown this way. This theory also has many supporters, as there have already been hints of a supposed Egyptian setting for Season 5 in leaks. And the new desert reskin of the map would also fit with Egypt.
How does that fit with Wild West?
But no matter if it’s a cat or a fox, the image somewhat clashes with the theory about time travel and Wild West locations. Until now, it was assumed that historical locations would come to the map through the cracks. Strange cat-foxes don’t quite fit in yet.
Is the being at the end some kind of deity that holds power over space and time? At least it seems to be related to the cracks, as a crack is just emerging from one of its eyes. Most likely, new teasers for Season 5 will come every day from now on. It remains exciting to see what Epic reveals next. Season 5 starts on July 12, 2018.
