Some former developers of World of Warcraft are presenting their new role-playing game on Steam. While it looks like the MMORPG, it plays very differently – how, you can find out soon for yourself.
What is it about? The game is called Legacy: Steel & Sorcery and is being developed by Notorious Studios. There are eight former WoW developers working there. According to Wowhead.com, these include former game designers Chris Kaleiki, concept artist Cole Eastburn, and level designer and environment artist Colin Volrath.
Legacy: Steel & Sorcery is a fantasy role-playing game with extraction mechanics: you choose one of several classes for your character and embark on missions solo or with up to two friends. In doing so, you will encounter other players who want to take your loot themselves.
So, you can expect something more like Dark and Darker with action combat from a third-person perspective, not a new WoW. How that is supposed to look, the developers have already shown in an official gameplay reveal.
You can check out the gameplay here:
Four classes and an interactive game world
What does the trailer show? Legacy: Steel & Sorcery is played from a third-person perspective, so you look over your character’s shoulders from a medium distance. The trailer shows two of the four classes currently in the game, according to PCGamesN:
- The Warrior makes short work of enemies with his battle axe and can pull opponents into melee range with a chain attack.
- The Hunter prefers to shoot enemies with bow and arrow and is very agile, allowing her to easily dodge enemy attacks.
The trailer does not show the Rogue and the Priest. Each class can interact with the world in different ways. For example, the Warrior hurls boulders at enemies, and his charge destroys structures in his way.
You level each character individually and unlock new features and abilities in the process. At the vendors in the hub area, you buy useful items and craft new ones. The better your relationship with these vendors, the better their offerings are supposed to be.
When is the game coming out? Legacy: Steel & Sorcery is set to enter Early Access in 2024. From October 11th to 13th, there will be a playtest that you can access on Steam. There will also be a free alpha demo during the Steam Next Fest, which starts on October 14th.
Will the Priest in Legacy: Steel & Sorcery be as powerful as he can be in WoW? There, one player managed to defeat the hardest boss fight in hard mode – with a Priest and an item level of only 569.
