A team of experts has released a new MMO on Steam that is completely different from all genre counterparts. In Equinox: Homecoming, it’s all about horseback riding and detective stories.
What kind of MMO is this? The development team from the Swedish studio Blue Scarab Entertainment, consisting of former developers from WoW, Star Stable Online, and Age of Conan, has released their new game in Early Access on Steam. Equinox: Homecoming is anything but a typical MMO.
The focus of the game is on riding your own horse as well as on detective stories all within an MMO world. As a social MMO, it impresses players on Steam at the Early Access launch, receiving a rating of “Very Positive” with 84% positive reviews on Steam.

Horses and Detective Stories Instead of Dungeons and Loot
What do you do in the MMO? Equinox: Homecoming has no dungeons, no loot, and no boss enemies. Instead of dwarves, elves, and orcs, there is only you and your horse. Your character returns to Alderwood Island after a long absence, but your homecoming is overshadowed by a terrible event: your own mother has disappeared.
But it gets stranger; a body of a teenager is found in the forest on the island. Together with your horse as a loyal companion, you embark on a quest to solve the mystery and uncover the secrets behind the terrible events. In doing so, you find yourself deeper entangled in a dark conspiracy.
Alongside the emotionally charged story, there are also real MMO elements in the open world. Together with other players, you can go riding, participate in competitions, or solve parts of the mystery. You will encounter various landscapes in the open world with hidden places and secrets.
Much revolves around your horse, which serves as a loyal companion through these difficult times. You care for your horse, train it, and also have to look after its feeding. The relationship between you and your horse is a central aspect of the MMO.
There are also riding communities that function like guilds in classic MMOs among the MMO aspects. In the open world, you can also meet strangers and chat with them or sit by a campfire for a chat. Equinox: Homecoming primarily implements the MMO elements as a social MMO.
