In June, the game MindsEye by former GTA boss Leslie Benzies will be released. One of his employees believes the negative reactions are fake.
Who is the former GTA chief? Until 2016, the 54-year-old Scot Leslie Benzies was President of Rockstar North and was responsible as a lead producer for the development of the GTA series. Under his leadership, titles such as GTA San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, GTA IV, and GTA V, as well as Red Dead Redemption, were created.
In the meantime, Benzies has established his own studio called “Build A Rocket Boy” and is developing his own game called “MindsEye“, which is set to be released on June 10, 2025, on Steam.
Developer believes player was paid for negative opinions
What claim is that? On May 27, a user asked on the official Discord server of MindsEye whether Mark Gerhard, the Deputy CEO of “Build a Rocket Boy,” believes that the negative reactions to the game are funded by someone.
Gerhard affirmed the question and replied: “100%”, before he shortly added, “It doesn’t take much to guess who.”
The developer might be alluding to the former employer of studio chief Benzies, namely Rockstar Games or its parent company Take-Two Interactive.
What reactions does the developer refer to? “Build a Rocket Boy” has since introduced MindsEye in more detail in several trailers, but the game received mixed reactions. While some players left positive comments and expressed curiosity about the game, others were noticeably more critical.

What kind of game is it? In MindsEye, you play as former soldier Jacob Diaz, who suffers from memory loss and carries a mysterious neural implant in his head. Throughout the game, you embark on covert missions and confront political corruption and corporate espionage. Additionally, artificial intelligence is said to represent a constant threat.
In the first gameplay trailer, MindsEye even somehow resembles GTA: There is a sunny metropolis, fast cars, shootings in third-person perspective, a cover mechanic, and of course wild chases with plenty of explosions.
