Jason Thor Hall is active on YouTube and Twitch as “Pirate Software.” The 37-year-old previously worked for Blizzard. Following his much-debated expulsion from the guild “OnlyFangs” on a hardcore server in WoW, he has now announced that he will no longer show World of Warcraft on stream. He comments on his expulsion from the guild.
Why was Pirate Software kicked out of the guild on Twitch? For days, a large amount of anger has been directed towards Pirate Software. The starting point was a pull in the instance “Duskbrack,” which went wrong.
Pirate Software, as a mage, withdrew from the fight and fled to the exit. When urged to return and help in the battle, he said he had no mana. Therefore, he could not help. During the pull, 2 guild members died.
In hindsight, he was accused of behaving incorrectly in the situation. As a mage, he could have saved the group if he had stayed calm, but instead, he fled cowardly. He himself had repeatedly stated that it was the duty of mages to save their groups in such situations. Additionally, he was criticized for not taking responsibility for his behavior in the situation and handling the case poorly.
The topic escalated in the days following the incident. Pirate Software was attacked, and he threatened to report people to Twitch. Ultimately, the guild leader, Sodapoppin, drew a line and expelled Pirate Software from the guild.
Pirate Software is done with WoW Classic after expulsion
This is what Pirate Software says now: Jason Hall puts an end to all speculation and states clearly:
“Guys, I will no longer play hardcore World of Warcraft on stream. I just don’t care about all this anymore. I don’t give a damn.”
With this, he also puts a stop to speculations about starting his own guild. He is out. None of this interests him anymore.
Pirate Software says: If people came because they thought the whole action was part of a grand soap opera, he has to tell them: He is not part of a soap opera and refuses to play a role in it. He is doing other things now, and that should be enough.
Pirate Software feels wronged
This is what he says about the expulsion: Pirate Software sees the reason for his expulsion as his threat to report people on Twitch who attacked him regarding the incident.
Why did you kick me out of the guild? Well, they kicked me out of the guild because I said I would report people who sent me abusive comments and incited their community to launch hate raids against me. What they didn’t understand is that I was only referring to a few people.
According to Pirate Software, he actually only reported a single content creator at the time. Now it is 3. But all of them were people who had sent their communities to attack Pirate Software and had spoken about it live on stream.
He did not “report everyone who talked about him.” But people have accused him of that:
I did not report everyone who talked about the topic. People just want to pin that on me. But that was the reason they kicked me out of the guild, that was the reason. So: I understand that. But they didn’t look at it properly. The expulsion was just done hastily. It was stupid, to be honest. This shit does not belong on the platform, and I am glad to report such things.
Pirate Software has experienced a strong upturn as a content creator in 2024, but after the failed pull in WoW Classic, he is now in the crosshairs.
