Battlefield might be facing a tough time. At least that’s what a former high-ranking employee of EA thinks. He says that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be strong competition.
Who made the statement? Casey Al-Kaisy, a former Brand Manager at EA, has reported on the situation via Twitter.
Modern Warfare is said to move into the niche previously occupied by Battlefield V – namely large-scale battles. EA’s game could therefore face powerful competition, for which it now needs to react, according to Al-Kaisy.
This is how Modern Warfare could seriously compete with Battlefield
Here is where the games have previously differed: So far, the Call of Duty franchise and the Battlefield series were two games that often competed against each other, but differed in key details like map size and maximum player count. This allowed both games to coexist, serving their own audiences and maintaining solid player numbers.
While Call of Duty usually focused on fast fights on small maps with few players, Battlefield was known for large-scale battles with many players. The maps in Battlefield were thus correspondingly large and protracted battles were usually the norm.
What’s coming with Modern Warfare: Infinity Ward has already announced that Modern Warfare will also feature multiplayer modes with up to 100 players (Ground War) and will provide the largest maps in Call of Duty history.
They are clearly advancing into Battlefield’s territory. Large battles will therefore also be possible in Call of Duty with Modern Warfare.
Here Al-Kaisy sees the problem: After Modern Warfare has excited many players with its gameplay, Al-Kaisy suspects that Battlefield fans might migrate.
He writes on Twitter that EA needs to react and should also offer something new to remain relevant against Modern Warfare.
Al-Kaisy shared a video about Modern Warfare’s multiplayer and says: “Great breakdown in the video by Jack Frags. I can guarantee that Call of Duty will fully evolve towards Battlefield over time. EA must react. Enough with the focus on visuals; what matters to players is gameplay.”
