In recent years, Nvidia has achieved significant success with its focus on AI. However, there are other competitors in the AI field that are also targeting market shares. These are primarily smaller companies that you probably have never heard of.
As the colleagues from Techradar report, there are developments in AI chip technology that could overshadow Nvidia’s and AMD’s products. One company is Cerebras Systems Inc. The American company was founded 9 years ago and is already benefiting massively from the current AI boom.
What makes this company so special? The company Cerebras Inc. has developed innovations that overshadow Nvidia’s current AI chip (H100) and the new GB200 chip. And it does this with a single, huge chip that is said to offer up to 900,000 GPU cores.
The CS-3 chip from Cerebras surpasses the double chip size of the enormous GB200. The superchip GB200 is intended to function like a massive graphics chip. Nvidia had only introduced the product in early 2024.
The manufacturer Cerebras describes its own CS-3 chip as the “fastest and most scalable AI accelerator in the world,” developed specifically for the “training of the world’s most advanced AI models.”
Furthermore, the American manufacturer claims that its Wafer Scale Engine is “the chip that broke Moore’s Law.” According to its internal benchmarks, the CS-3, with a total of 10,000,000,000,000 transistors, significantly outperforms Nvidia’s AI chip H100.
Many companies see tremendous potential in AI chips
AI computing currently represents a huge business for some manufacturers like Nvidia: It concerns billions of euros, and for this reason, more and more companies are offering products. Demand that Nvidia cannot meet is then taken up by other companies.
Whether companies like Cerebras can ultimately succeed remains to be seen. AI computing is still more or less in its infancy, and currently, a lot of experimentation and trial is taking place. What hardware is actually needed and purchased will only become apparent at the very end of the development process.
AMD or Nvidia: Right now, AMD and Nvidia are arguing over who can offer the fastest AI chip. And this dispute involves a lot of money: AMD and Nvidia are arguing about the fastest graphics card – but the GPU isn’t aimed at gamers at all
