Next week, a new anime open-world RPG is launching, which has already reminded many players of Genshin Impact even before its release. MeinMMO author Linda Knabe is also looking forward to the release.
My love for Genshin Impact started during the Covid pandemic sometime in January 2021. At that time, I spent several weeks at home on standby duty, which gave me quite a bit of time to game. And I actually spent that time solely in Genshin Impact.
Since then, I have been regularly and consistently dedicating my time to the anime RPG, and I look forward to experiencing many great moments in the world of Teyvat. However, next week a new open-world RPG will start, which will probably take up that time for now.
What game are we talking about here? Wuthering Waves is a new open-world RPG with a free-to-play model from Kuro Games. To be clear: yes, it is – like Genshin Impact – a so-called Gacha game. Early on, the game was referred to as a “dark” Genshin Impact.
Many players have been waiting for Wuthering Waves for a long time and are closely following its development. Even before its release next week, over 30,500,000 players have pre-registered. Initially, the game will be released on PC and mobile. A console release is planned and will follow sometime later.
Recently, there was a major advertising campaign featuring the characters from Wuthering Waves all over Times Square in New York, as shown in an official video on YouTube.
Why is Wuthering Waves exciting? Wuthering Waves caught my attention quite early on. Initially, I was convinced by the character designs and the setting of the RPG. To this day, I must say that every new character design I see makes me think about how much love the developers put into this area.
The designs of both possible protagonists, the Rovers, also impress me this time. While I could quickly decide on characters in Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, I will probably take a bit longer to make my choice here.
The more I engaged with the game, the more information there was, which convinced me that Wuthering Waves could soon become a new favorite game besides Genshin Impact. Among other things, I am very excited about the story and especially the combat system, where you capture the echoes of enemies and use them in battle.
Wuthering Waves promises features that I miss in Genshin
That my choices in dialogues are supposed to change the course of the story is something I have wished for in Genshin many times. I am looking forward to giving my Rover a much more personal character and also seeing how much my playstyle differs from those of my friends.
