For a long time, fans of the zombie and drama series “The Walking Dead” wondered what the two categories “A“ and “B“ meant, into which the CRM categorizes people. The spin-off “The Ones Who Live” has now provided the answer.
For a long time, it was a big mystery what the two letters “A” and “B” meant in the series The Walking Dead.
For example, Jadis categorized her prisoners into one of the two categories and reported people with the corresponding letters to the Civil Republic Military, short CRM.
Thus, Rick, Gabriel, and Negan all belonged to category “A”. However, when Jadis wanted to evacuate the wounded Rick by helicopter, she labeled him as a “B”.
With new insights from The World Beyond, many suspected that “A” refers to people who are test subjects bitten by a zombie or on the verge of being bitten.
While this is close to the truth, it is not entirely correct. Because now the new spin-off The Ones Who Live has given us the full truth behind the two letters.

What the letters A and B really mean
The character Okafor explains to Rick in the first episode of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live what the letter system of the CRMs really entails:
“The ‘A’s have a strength. ‘A’s die for what they believe in. People follow the ‘A’s. The people we encounter in the world, the few we bring to us, are classified as ‘B’s. Ordinary people just trying to survive. ‘B’s come in. The ‘A’s are sent away and killed […].”
This assigns an A to the individuals who pose a danger to the CRM system and could upset the balance of power. As we already learned in The World Beyond, the killed “A”s end up as test subjects to better research the zombies.
In contrast, “B”s do not pose a threat to the system in the CRM and are therefore integrated as labor into the group.
