In Fortnite: Battle Royale has started the end event for Season 8. A mysterious rune is floating above the map and you can advance it. Find out here everything we know so far about the big event.
What is the rune about? On April 19, a mysterious rune appeared on a metal pedestal at Paradise Palms. Unlike previous rune occurrences, this one has a health point display. You can damage the rune with your weapons.
What happens when the rune is damaged? At first, nothing, but once a total of 100 million points of damage have been dealt, the rune will move and fly to a new location. It will stay there until it is “supplied” with another 100 million damage.
How is it possible to deal 100,000,000 damage alone? The event is global, and the damage from all Fortnite players in every ongoing match worldwide is accounted for the rune. Every contribution counts, and the rune moves surprisingly quickly thanks to your collective efforts.
Where is the rune now? As of now (April 20), the rune has zoomed all the way to Shifty Shafts and seems to be moving north towards Loot Lake.
Theories about the endgame
What is behind the rune? Recently at Loot Lake, a strange bunker complex with a massive closed shaft has appeared. The material of the shaft seems to be the same as that of the rune pedestals.
It is suspected that the rune is somehow a key to the shaft and something big will come out at the end. It is likely that more runes will appear that will be directed to Loot Lake like the current rune.
What is the shaft about? There is also a lot of speculation about the secret of the closed shaft on Reddit:
- It is suspected that it has to do with the cube. It actually exploded at this location at the end of Season 6.
- Other players suspect that everything has to do with Thanos. The villain from the upcoming Avengers film has been vaguely teased by Epic, and there was also a Thanos mode for the last film in 2018.
- It is still unclear what the butterfly was about that appeared in a cutscene after the end of the cube.
However, at least 2 weeks are likely to pass before Season 8 ends. So it remains exciting what Epic will pull out of the hat.
