World of Warcraft Classic has launched and as feared, there are partly hours-long queues – but players are not just waiting in the queue to get into the game. Even in the game, fans are queuing to complete quests.
When did World of Warcraft Classic launch? Last night at 12:01 AM Blizzard opened the servers of WoW Classic. This allows the MMORPG to be experienced again as it was at the time of patch 1.12 in August 2006, including the bugs of that time.
How did the MMORPG start? Right at launch, there were queues on the servers of more than 10,000 players at times. This means that players in such queues have to wait several hours before they can start playing. There can be waiting times of more than twelve hours!
On the US server Herod, there were even waiting lines that swelled to 30,000.
It’s all about: Waiting, waiting, waiting…
That’s why there’s even more waiting time: Whoever finally manages to get into the game after hours of waiting still has more waiting time ahead.
Because players are queuing to complete quests and defeat quest mobs. Pictures of this look very disturbing. A very long line of players waiting to finally take down the boss and complete the quests.
How do the players react to this? The mood is surprisingly positive. Yes, the waiting can be annoying, but many are just very happy about the launch of WoW Classic. They are even proud to be able to stand in long queues. Because this shows how popular the game is and how well an MMORPG is still received today.
How long can we expect waiting times? WoW Classic has just launched. Of course, everyone wants to log in now. This should improve in the coming days and weeks.
Waiting times in front of the bosses will also decrease as players move on and spread out across the game world.
Blizzard advises patience
What does Blizzard say about the situation? The developers advise players not to log into servers that already have a very high population. There are indeed realms with fewer players. On these, it is even possible to start with very short waiting times or, with a bit of luck, even immediately.
Will there be new servers? Blizzard is holding back on this. Experience has shown that the population of a server reduces in the first days and weeks, and everything stabilizes better. Only then will it become clear whether new servers are really necessary. Blizzard wants to wait for a while, even if this currently means hours of waiting for the players.
So what should you do? Look for a server with a low population when logging in and be patient. The situation will probably remain this way for the next few days, but then it should slowly improve.
