In Destiny 2, there have been many complaints in recent months that loot is too dependent on luck and nearly impossible to farm. That is supposed to change with the new season 7 today, on June 4.
This has been the situation lately: In recent months in Destiny 2, frustration has grown among many players regarding how loot is distributed. It was mostly about how to get the weapons with the perks they preferred.
Because this had changed for the worse with Season 6 in Destiny 2 starting in March 2019:
- In the 1st DLC, with the forges in Season 5, players were still able to buy specific bounties to work towards certain weapons.
- In the 2nd DLC, in Season 6, it was basically pure chance. Guardians had to run the Reckoning and hope that a suitable weapon would drop and that it had decent stats. The loot pool was huge.

This was the problem: While in the 1st DLC some players farmed specifically for a “God Roll” and spent days doing so, it was hardly possible in the 2nd DLC. The loot pool was just too large and there was almost no way to farm specifically.
This clearly took a toll on morale and ensured that the “Season of the Drifter” would be remembered as a low point in the history of Destiny 2.
With the bizarre system in the 2nd DLC, players could only farm questionable, but very stylish armor pieces specifically. Moreover, they could complete certain objectives, which gave them the chance at specific masterwork weapons. Whether they dropped was still dependent on RNG.

Destiny focuses on effort instead of luck
Here’s how Bungie wants to fix this: The key to farming items starting today, in the Menagerie, will be the “Chalice of Opulence”.
This involves improving it over time to receive more powerful rewards.
- Players will earn “runes” that they insert into the chalice to tell the chalice, “I want these items.” The combinations of which runes provide which items and perks are likely set, but hidden.
- Additionally, players will further upgrade and improve their chalice to access stronger items and have more choices.

This way, the Guardian will again be able to select and work towards gear.
Additionally, the player should be able to customize their chalice according to their preferences and set priorities, such as whether they want
- to specify exactly which item they want
- or to have additional rewards
During this process, the community will have to figure out which runes yield which items. So, a “puzzle factor” returns for the community.
This is what it’s about: The main theme of Destiny 2 this time is to give players the choice and empower them to choose between different options.
This is how they want to reduce the factor of luck:

The idea of putting “loot in the hands” of players could bring back some frustrated Guardians who were tired of relying on luck in Reckoning.
Is there a catch? At the moment, no one knows how the system will work exactly. There is no test server for Destiny 2.
But on paper, the new system sounds interesting. We’ll now have to see if players’ decisions are really “interesting” and “equivalent”.
However, this could become an interesting new twist for Destiny 2 today.
