For a long time, the MMORPG Black Desert Online was quiet, but at this year’s Calpheon Ball, publisher Pearl Abyss announced new content: besides a new region inspired by Seol, you can look forward to many updates and quality-of-life changes. The highlight? The new class Scholar.

2 new classes and a new region bring fresh air to Black Desert
What new classes are there? During the Calpheon Ball, the Scholar
, announced in German as Gelehrter
, was presented. In the trailer, the class is represented by a red-haired woman with glasses and a beret. Here you can see the trailer:
As a Scholar, you fight with intellect and much muscle power. Unlike the similarly named class in Final Fantasy 14, you are absolutely hands-on here:
Your character summons two oversized hammers with which you can smash your opponents in close combat. For particularly heavy attacks, the two hammers merge into an even larger hammer. While you fight with the class up close and personal, the focus is on intense area-of-effect attacks.

Is there another new class? Indeed, a second class was announced: a male class that uses a sword, a pipe, and the power of Do, Black Desert Online’s version of magic.
Currently, there is no further information on this class. It will only appear in 2024 with the second part of the update.
What kind of new region can you expect? The new region belongs to The Land of the Morning Light
(translated: Das Land des Morgenlichts
) and is supposed to be a historical version of South Korea’s own capital, Seoul. Most influences are supposedly taken from the royal main palace of the Joseon dynasty
.
In addition to the external influences, the new lore will also be shaped by Korea’s history. So you can look forward to historical references.
What other changes have been announced? Besides the highlights with the new class and the new region, Pearl Abyss had a whole lot of other adjustments in store:
- the new
Fallen God Tier
weapons, which are supposed to surpass the currently strongestPEN Blackstar
weapons - There should be fewer loading screens
- Inventory management is to be simplified
- Old quest lines will continue to be updated with new cut scenes, voice-overs, etc.
- A new quest search function has been announced
- Monster grind zones will be buffed
When can you play the changes? The new update and thus the new content will be released in two parts. Part one, featuring the Scholar, has been in testing since December 17th. The official release date is December 20th. Part 2 is expected to go live only in 2024.
