During the time of RTL2-Animes, there were several series centered around collecting and catching monsters. Besides Pokémon, Digimon was very popular among many kids. A new game will soon be released, allowing you to travel back to your childhood.
What kind of game is this? Digimon Story Time Stranger is set to be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. Players will have the opportunity to strengthen their bond with their Digimon.
- Players will travel back and forth between the human world and the Digi-world. The trailer shows that the human world looks like a metropolis in Japan, while the Digi-world features a variety of biomes.
- The two worlds are on the brink of collapse. It is up to you to uncover the mystery behind the breakdown.
- The game is supposed to be a role-playing game. It is still unknown to what extent you can customize your character. Additionally, you can befriend Digimon, which will then compete against each other in turn-based battles.
The game is part of the Digimon story series. The series focuses more on the storyline of the games. The last game released was Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory from the story series. Time Stranger will likely be similar in gameplay.

For some, Digimon is the “better Pokémon”
Which anime is the game based on? The plot of Time Stranger is separate from the anime series but is based on the same premise. The Digi-world and the real world exist parallel to each other. Occasionally, the boundaries mix, and one species enters the world of the other.
In the anime, different children are sent to the Digi-world in each season and befriend Digimon there (or even become one themselves). The first season of Digimon Adventure aired in 2000 on RTLZWEI, which is why many of you may remember the series from your childhood.
Why is it a good alternative to Pokémon? Actually, Pokémon is the largest anime franchise, but Digimon is a good alternative to the pocket monsters in many ways:
- As in Pokémon, you will enter turn-based battles against your opponents in Time Stranger. Many Digimon have their own repertoire of attacks, making the battles more tactical. In Pokémon, however, there is a limited pool of attacks that are divided among the pocket monsters.
- There are numerous Digimon to collect. They differ in shape, color, and size. In total, there are over 1,400 Digimon that can be collected, which is more than in Pokémon. Whether all will be present in Time Stranger remains to be seen.
- The Digimon can even speak in the anime. This allows for a stronger bond to be built with them instead of treating them like pets.
- Pokémon takes place in the real world, whereas Digimon is set in a digital world. This gives developers the opportunity to create even more impressive worlds.
MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus sees it differently. He brings a third monster anime into the race that is supposed to be better than the others. He is particularly impressed by the story of Monster Rancher, which is said to be more serious than those of Pokémon and Digimon: A forgotten RTL2 anime outshines Digimon by far
