Some see the Orochi in For Honor as OP. But what makes him so strong? Here is our Orochi guide with tips on combos, skills, and counter abilities.
Even in the open beta, it became clear that the Orochi of the Samurai is among the most popular and best heroes. The reason for this is not only his cool appearance but also mainly his hero-specific abilities, special attacks, and combos.
Orochi – Info on the Samurai Assassin
The Orochi are the imperial assassins of the Samurai. His weapon is a katana, a long sword. However, he also masters the “dark secrets” of the Samurai and can attack with a kunai (throwing dagger), smoke bombs, or sharpened blades.
As an assassin, the Orochi is a fast and agile character who can barely take any damage himself. You need to be able to react quickly and wait for counter opportunities. With his katana, he has only a limited range. For every action you take with the Orochi, you need the right timing.
Therefore, he also has the difficulty “Hard” – it takes time to master this hero perfectly.
Recommended Playstyle: Wait for opponents’ attacks, dodge them, and counter. This will make the Orochi an extremely dangerous warrior. This playstyle is also supported by his hero-specific abilities.
The Actions and Special Attacks of the Orochi in For Honor
If you just hammer the buttons wildly, you won’t get far with the Orochi. You will master the Samurai only if you use the distance to your opponent correctly and know his special attacks.
Note on the combos:
- R1 stands for Light Attack
- R2 for Heavy Attack
- Left Stick (L) for Movement (in the corresponding direction)
- Right Stick (R) for Weapon Position
- Square for Break Guard
- X for Dodge
- L3 for Sprint
- The first three combos are chain attacks.
- With the Flowstrike, you initially step back, then take a step forward and perform an overhead strike. It is difficult to time, but if it hits, it deals good damage. Suitable against charging opponents.
- The Stormfront is interesting: If you hold R2, the Orochi remains in his crouched attack position. If you release the button, he lunges forward and attacks the enemy. This allows you to quickly cover distances and surprise the enemy. However, the Orochi always attacks from the right. Experienced fighters will know this.
- The Flashstrike is a good attack to initiate the fight. A quick strike.
- With the Zephyr Strike, you move a step around the opponent and attack quickly.
- The Windstrike and the Typhoon Strike require the hero-specific ability “Deflect”: You can deflect attacks by dodging in the direction of the attack just before a hit. If successful, you must also execute a light or heavy attack at the right moment. Windstrike and Typhoon Strike cannot be deflected.
All special attacks are shown to you with moving images in the video from Refaser. Be sure to watch the Windstrike and Typhoon strike (from minute 6:22) and then practice them:
Additional Abilities:
- Defense: Reflex: The guard remains in position for only a limited time.
- Light Head Attack Combo: The second light head attack is guaranteed to hit if the first hits.
- Cancel Typhoon Strike: You can cancel the Typhoon Strike and turn it into a Windstrike, Guard Break, or a dodge.

- React in battle to the opponents’ attacks, don’t just rush in blindly.
- Try to find a mix of light attacks and special attacks. Using only special attacks makes you predictable.
- Don’t let yourself be backed into a corner. You need space to dodge.
