The player base of For Honor is not holding back criticism of the melee game. Meanwhile, the recently added user reviews on Steam are mostly negative.
For Honor had a successful launch in mid-February. With a player base of nearly 46,000, For Honor was among the top ten most played games on Steam. User reviews overall were rated “Very Positive”, particularly praising the graphics and the combat system.
However, it became evident after just a few weeks that the hype was replaced by significant criticism of all the problems, and players were leaving in droves. After two weeks, the number dropped to around 20,000 players, and after three weeks, it was under 15,000 players. Now, in early April, the player base stands at a meager 5,000. And the curve continues to trend downwards.
Players are dissatisfied and leaving poor reviews
On Steam, the overall rating quickly changed from “Very Positive” to “Mixed”. Looking at the current Steam user reviews, the overall rating is still “Mixed”, but the recently added reviews are “mostly negative”.
Only 38% of all user reviews submitted in the last 30 days are positive.
Reasons for this can be quickly identified: connection and matchmaking problems, lags, criticism of the high steel prices, unbalanced heroes, or some simply state that it is a Ubisoft game.
In many games, the recently added reviews are better than the overall ratings, as developers roll out bug fixes and new features after the launch that improve the gaming experience. Once the teething problems are resolved, players are more satisfied with the game.
However, with For Honor, the opposite is true. Recently, a boycott was called for to show Ubisoft that this cannot continue. Whether the developers will succeed in turning the mood around in the future remains to be seen.
