The melee brawler For Honor will do a thorough cleanup of the item shop regarding cosmetics and will temporarily remove many items. This is really putting many fans off!
For Honor has a cosmetic problem: In Ubisoft’s sword-fighter For Honor, according to the developers, there are far too many cosmetics available in the shop. This supposedly makes the selection menu terribly confusing. New players in particular would be overwhelmed by it.
Therefore, they now want to do a thorough cleanup of the item stash!
In two weeks, over 600 items will be affected!
Rotation instead of a giant stash: Overall, Ubisoft plans to remove 146 items (over 600 if duplicates are counted) by July 19, 2018. However, the items will not disappear forever. They are supposed to occasionally reappear in a regular rotation and also be cheaper.
What if I already have the items? If you’ve already purchased a cosmetic item, you can keep it. Nothing will be taken away from you.
Discount promotion until the cleanup: Until the start of the cleanup operation, you can still snag the affected items at up to 50 percent off.
Fans upset about item removal
Why do the items have to go? The announcement of item removal was not well received by the fans of For Honor. On Reddit, players are gathering in angry threads to complain about Ubisoft. Some do not understand why such wonderful content is simply being thrown out. In an online game, one can never have enough cosmetic options! Couldn’t the UI of the shop be improved instead?
Cash grab suspicion: Other players suspect foul play. They believe that Ubisoft is after their money, saying: “Hey, look, these items are only available for a short time, grab them now before they are gone!” Artificial scarcity is supposed to draw money out of players’ pockets.
Ubisoft backs down after a few hours
Update: Around 6 PM our time, Ubisoft has already responded (via Reddit). After all the feedback, the team from For Honor has decided not to remove the content from the game. Instead, Ubisoft apologizes for how they communicated this.
