For Honor launches with 12 multiplayer maps. Each map will have several design variations.
If you fear that 12 PvP maps at launch may quickly become monotonous, Ubisoft will teach you otherwise. They introduce “Map Variations”: each of the maps will have four to six design variations. This means that the weather, time of day, and vegetation can differ.
So you should find around 60 map variations when For Honor launches on February 14th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Additional maps will subsequently be added in free DLCs.
An example of the map variations can be seen here:
By the way: The faction war also affects the appearance of the maps. If the Knights occupy an area, you will find different symbols and crests than if the Samurai hold sway there:
Info about the Maps
Of the twelve maps at launch, Ubisoft has already revealed six. On some of them, you have already fought during the closed beta:
- Citadel Gate (Knights): A massive fortification built during the Great Empire to protect population centers. It was reclaimed by the Iron Legion based on the rights of their ancestors.

- Cathedral (Knights): It is now just a cathedral ruin, which is now a battlefield.

- High Watch (Samurai): This fortress is located directly on the cliffs and houses a number of catapults and ballistae. Its strategically advantageous location provides the Samurai with a good overview of wide and open areas. A fortress consists of both an outer fortification, where most of the defensive structures are located, and an inner fortification, where siege weapons are positioned.

- Forest (Samurai): This inhospitable forest consists of an endless swamp, from which many warriors have not emerged alive.

- River Fort (Vikings): A river fort protects against attacks from the water. They usually originated from fishing villages on riverbanks, transformed into a fortress with catapults. The warriors are highly trained units specializing in sinking ships.

- Canyon (Vikings): The Vikings have found ways to inhabit and traverse canyons. There you will also fight battles in For Honor.
