In For Honor, the new emotes are causing angry players. The heated discussion about the steel prices flares up again.
Just a few days ago, new emotes for the heroes were introduced as part of a live update new emotes for the heroes were introduced. For example, we previously saw a pony emote for the Lawbringer or an Orochi gesture where he elegantly spins his katana around. Many players thought, “Cool, I will equip my hero with this right away!”
However, the excitement was quickly dampened: For each of these new gestures, a whopping 7000 steel is required. Steel is the in-game currency in For Honor, which can be earned through gameplay or purchased for real money. And 7000 steel is a lot – 5000 steel costs 5 euros. So one might think twice about whether to invest the hard-earned currency in a gesture or in champion status and character upgrades.
On Reddit, players are complaining that these are exorbitant price expectations from Ubisoft. One user writes that the combat system in For Honor is really cool, but everything else is just terrible. How shockingly high the steel prices actually are is now being calculated by a user on Reddit.
2.5 years or 732 euros!
On average, it costs 91500 steel to unlock all gestures, executions, effects, outfits, and ornaments of a single hero. If this is calculated for each hero, a total of 1,098,000 steel must be earned to obtain all unlockable objects without spending real money.
The most expensive steel bundle in the store costs 100 euros and grants you 150,000 steel. If you want to acquire the 1,098,000 steel with hard euros, you have to spend 732 euros.
According to the Redditor, it is realistic to earn about 1200 steel per day. For each completed match, you receive between 10 and 40 steel. In addition, you can earn several hundred steel daily by completing contracts. If you continue this steel farming, it will still take 77 days to have enough for just one hero. For all heroes, you will need to collect 1200 steel daily for 2.5 years.
It should be noted: These numbers only apply to the unlockable objects currently in the game. When new emotes, new ornaments, or new DLCs and heroes come, you’ll have to earn significantly more steel.
In short: It is impossible to unlock everything in For Honor just by playing. However, some players point out that this goal is not even desirable – you only want to own everything for your two or three favorite heroes. But many users point out that it is extremely frustrating to know that you can never unlock everything.
Even for just one of the new gestures, you will spend a week to obtain it. Whether it is not more sensible to invest the steel in champion status or in upgrades is something everyone must decide for themselves.
Whether Ubisoft will rethink and revise the pricing policy for steel is unknown.
