Ball Shortage in Pokémon GO? Trainers say: Yes
What players are saying: On reddit, the topic of Pokéballs is currently THE discussion. One thread is titled “The shortage of Pokéballs is becoming extremely evident” (via reddit.com). There are over 419 comments on it. Many trainers agree and explain that they are missing the important items. This is what’s being discussed:
- Despite opening gifts and spinning PokéStops, balls are scarce
- Pokémon are hard to catch, which is why more balls are needed
- Players in countries with lockdown almost never have balls
However, the topic is controversial. Trainers with access to multiple PokéStops say they can always fill their supplies quickly. It is suspected that trainers are catching more Pokémon during the current event and therefore are fundamentally slower in saving balls for events like the Community Day with Swablu.
It becomes clear, however, that more and more players in rural areas are complaining. They may have one PokéStop nearby or even none at all. The affected trainers have to travel long distances to spin a stop. Here, a wish arises that is currently being discussed in another thread on reddit:
“With the Swablu Community Day being held this weekend, there is an immense need for the reintroduction of buddy Pokémon that bring balls every hour” (via reddit.com).
This is the request: Here, user twolobster writes that he lives in a rural area in India, where strict lockdown is in place. He notes that he regularly experiences a shortage of Pokéballs. “Since I also play PvP, it was a nice gesture that legendaries were added to the reward pool; however, you need somewhere between 10 and 30 balls to catch one if you want to keep playing, which further depletes resources,” writes the topic creator.
He explains that Altaria is a Pokémon that requires 400 candies to evolve from Swablu. He says Niantic needs to bring back the buddy feature for this Community Day so that players stuck at home can have an easier time.
The solution was already there before
The buddy feature was also active during the Community Day with Samurzel (in May 2020). Regularly, your super buddy would run off and bring balls from stops. In the video by Cassie Rose, you can see what such a gift delivery from your buddy looked like:
This way, players in rural areas were also supplied with balls and could catch many Pokémon during the Community Days. It was really good for village players. But the feature was then disabled again. Instead, trainers are supposed to receive balls more frequently through gifts and stop spins.
This is the problem: In rural areas, there are only a few stops or gyms that can provide you with balls. Additionally, you also need to have some luck when spinning a stop to get balls. With buddies, there were guaranteed balls, but those have been removed.
Moreover, at the current time, COVID-19 is still active, and there are strict restrictions depending on the region. Therefore, trainers wish to receive balls again through their buddy Pokémon.
