The eSports clan FaZe has made a radical decision and expelled 14 members via Twitter, including the Twitch streamer Kalei (24). She finds the expulsion unfair and brutal.
What’s going on at FaZe?
- FaZe has been a particularly cool eSports clan since 2010, focused on shooters like Call of Duty or CS:GO, and a little bit on crypto fraud. The clan became prominent not through eSports success, but through content creators. FaZe is generally considered the largest eSports clan in the world, in terms of social media presence. The clan has had some “dubious” dealings, including contracts and strange deals.
- Starting in 2015, FaZe gradually changed, received investments, and became more commercial. Ultimately, they entered more deals, brought in new faces like Snoop Dogg into the team, and even went public in 2022.
- But that failed, the stock price fell dramatically and there was a radical change in direction. The “original members”, who had previously sold their shares, took command again from October 2023.
He was a known member of FaZe, FaZe Jarvis:
FaZe Clan Expels 14 Members via Twitter Post
This was the brutal decision: One of the founders of FaZe, FaZe Banks, made a tweet on April 27 where he listed 14 names, including himself and streamers like Stable Ronaldo and Nickmercs.
In it, he writes: “Everyone else is out. This is our squad.”
Banks thus fired 14 members at once and halved the number of members in FaZe.
For One Streamer, A Dream Dies
This is the reaction: Being a member of the FaZe clan was a dream and a life goal for many streamers. In 2022, there was even a dedicated game show to become a member of FaZe.
One of those affected by this, who Banks expelled, is Kalei, a Twitch streamer known for her gameplay in Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends:
- Kalei was completely devastated on Twitch that she was affected and cried.
- She said she is one of the few members who generates millions of views and is being fired.
- She wasn’t even paid by the clan, but that was her family.
The streamer says she has never cried on stream before, but now it caught her and makes her very emotional.
Kalei explains that she found out 12 hours beforehand that she would be expelled. But all complaints were ignored.
What does Banks say? In a stream with Adin Ross, the old and new boss says nothing personal is involved. But FaZe has indeed been controlled by “corporate money”, which just wanted to milk the brand, and that’s not how it works.
FaZe has been a “commercial shit-show” for years (via TikTok). Banks himself complains that his shares were “stolen” from him.
Asmongold: FaZe Has Always Been a Bunch of Jerks
This is what’s behind it: Generally, the decision is being controversially discussed:
- The idea that the clan is changing direction and going back to its roots resonates with many
- However, the fact that it happened so brutally is something no one deserves
The streamer Asmongold commented on the action (via YouTube): He thinks it’s good that FaZe is going to be like it used to be. But FaZe has always been a group of jerks. That’s how they operate and that’s who they are again.
FaZe pulls off trick shots, has an eSports team and always drama on social media. That’s their identity. The commercial direction has never worked, says Asmongold.
There apparently seems to be a clear direction dispute at FaZe. This ignited over the actress Grace van Dien (Stranger Things), who was invited into the clan. Some of the “old guard” saw this as a betrayal of the values of FaZe.
This can be seen that way, but the harsh treatment of people seen as outsiders is indeed difficult:
