For 3 years I have been using my absolute favorite headset with a great feature – for Prime Day the successor is 40% off

Are you still looking for a new headset for gaming or for the home office? The Steelseries Arctis 7 and its successor Arctis 7+ as well as the Nova 7 are good candidates. Why these models are exciting for you is explained by MeinMMO editor Sophia Weiß.

Three years ago, I received the Steelseries Arctis 7 as a gift. Since then, it has been my loyal companion for private gaming, but also in the home office. Since both modern variants, the Arctis 7+ and the Arctis Nova 7, are on sale for Prime Day, I would like to introduce you to why I love the headset and can also recommend the successors.

Comfort and a special feature are the highlights of the Arctis 7

What do I like about the Arctis 7? The comfort. The headset weighs 350 grams, but feels super light and fits just right.

The wearing height is adjustable with a rubber band, so the speakers always sit correctly. The rubber band also ensures that no uncomfortable pressure is created on the head, which had occasionally happened with my once beloved Razer Kraken V2. This way, the hardware does not limit me for long gaming nights or the next meeting marathon.

The ear cushions resting against the head are very easy to remove and reattach. This is an absolute quality-of-life feature for me, as I can easily clean the fabric cushions.

Furthermore, I enjoy the freedom that wireless brings me: I no longer have to worry about internal cable breaks when things get intense while gaming. On the other hand, I can easily get up during game breaks or longer meetings. This way, I stay on the ball and can still refill my coffee or energy drink.

The mute button on the back is simply genius. It allows me to manually turn my headset on and off. This eliminates the frantic search for the mouse pointer and the unmute button on the screen to quickly make myself audible for two sentences in the meeting.

My personal absolute highlight is that the Arctis 7 offers two audio channels: For example, “Arctis 7 Chat” runs Microsoft Teams or my current Discord conversation. The second channel “Arctis 7 Game” plays the sound of my current game or browser tabs.

This way, I can either manually adjust the volume of how loud my conversation partners should be compared to my currently opened medium on the PC or with an additional knob on the headset.

The microphone is the biggest weakness of the gaming headset

What do I not like so much? The sound of the microphone is unfortunately only okay and not brilliant. For work in the home office, it is absolutely sufficient, and even for private gaming, it is more than enough. However, anyone who requires very good sound quality – whether for podcast recordings, streaming, or YouTube videos – will need an additional external microphone.

Also, in my view, the microphone is a weak point: it is retractable. Since receiving it, I’ve been worried that I might accidentally break it. So far, nothing has happened, but I have also handled it very carefully.

After three years, I can no longer charge the headset while wearing it: the mini-USB port is slightly worn out. This results in the charging cable slipping with the slightest movement, and the charging or not charging status is indicated by a loud sound.

Pros
  • 1A comfort
  • 2 audio channels with stepless balancing
  • Freedom of movement thanks to wireless
  • Stepless volume adjustment
  • Mute button on the headset
Cons
  • The microphone is only “OK”
  • Hardware weaknesses

Why do I recommend the Arctis 7+ and the Arctis Nova 7? I still own the original base version of the headset. The Arctis 7+ and the Nova 7 are based on it but improve it – as my MeinMMO hardware expert Benedikt Schlotmann assured me. Benedikt himself owns the latest version with the Nova 7 and is absolutely thrilled with it.

  • The Arctis 7+ replaces the mini-USB port with USB-C.
  • Offers a battery life of about 30 instead of just 24 hours.
  • Can be charged via USB-C and has a fast charge function for particularly intense days.
  • It looks closest to the base version.

The Nova 7 includes the same upgrades but can also be connected via Bluetooth and features a dual wireless function. With the latter, you can play two devices simultaneously.

My model is now hardly available. The two successor models are on the market. The Arctis 7+ has an MSRP of €169, but is available on Amazon for a regular price of €149. The Nova version, on the other hand, has an MSRP of €179 but is sold for a regular price of €153 on Amazon.

Both models are available at a discount for Amazon Prime Day. We present more headset recommendations here:
