Football star Neymar Jr streamed several times on Twitch in October and November. However, he is currently banned from the platform. There are two theories about this, one of which involves the phone number of football player Richarlison.
What happened? Neymar Júnior is one of the most famous football players in the world. Accordingly, his debut on Twitch was very successful. During his first livestream on October 1, an average of 89,278 people watched (via Sullygnome).
However, the livestream adventure seems to be over for now. Since November 9, Neymar has been banned from Twitch. In the community, there are two theories about this:
- On one hand, he may have fallen victim to DMCA takedowns. Twitch is currently taking a tougher stance against users who violate copyright with music.
- On the other hand, Neymar foolishly displayed the number of his football colleague Richarlison during a livestream.
Was Neymar banned due to a phone number?
What is the issue with the phone number? On October 18, Neymar showed his smartphone during a livestream while calling his colleague Richarlison from the Brazilian national team. This displayed the player’s phone number to all his viewers.
Richarlison himself was not pleased and later tweeted that he received over 10,000 messages in 5 minutes because of the incident.
After that, the clip remained on Neymar’s Twitch channel for weeks. Richarlison’s phone number is now also found on YouTube and several social media platforms.
Why is this problematic? Twitch prohibits the “unauthorized disclosure of private information” in its guidelines. This also includes revealing foreign phone numbers.
There is a possibility that this clip will bring trouble for Neymar. It is not known whether Richarlison himself filed a complaint about this.
What about the music? Another possible reason could be the ban due to copyright infringement. The strict monitoring of music usage is currently causing a lot of uncertainty on Twitch:
- Twitch warned streamers to review their old content and delete anything that used copyrighted music.
- Some streamers have started deleting their life’s work.
- With Jaryd “summit1g” Lazar, one of the biggest streamers on Twitch, fears for his account because he already has 3 strikes.
However, even deleting content apparently does not protect against a ban. The German streamer Papaplatte reports that he was banned for an old clip that he had already deleted. This is likely because clips are still stored in a Twitch database even after deletion. However, the ban for Papaplatte has since been lifted.
Neymar is not the only football professional who has started streaming on Twitch. Forward Sergio Agüero has been active there since spring 2020, regularly playing FIFA 20.
In a clip, he humorously got frustrated over a mistake and looks just like his character in the game.
